Chitty chitty bang bang probably one of the most recognised cars around the world after it starred in the 1968 film alongside actors Van Dyke, Sally Ann Howes and Benny Hill. Chitty has always had the registration number GEN11 and has been seen by thousands of chitty chitty fans around the world seeing people spend 30 years competing in charity races all around the country and the world.

The one and only Michael Jackson even tried to buy it for his Neverland Ranch but owner Pierre Picton refused to sell the vehicle outside the UK at that time and wanted to keep the car within the United Kingdom. It is thought that Michael Jackson attempted to buy the car more than one occasion.

When it was finally put it up for auction it was expected to fetch between £750,000 and £1.5 million but eventually went for £500,000 at an auction in Los Angles in USA on Sunday.  Pierre who was the sad seller of the vehicle said he was sad to let the luxury vehicle go and said Chitty has been a great friend to me over the years. He said ‘I hope that the car will continue to bring great enjoyment for generations to come ‘.

The car will bring great enjoyment for more generations to come and was part of a number of items of film and music memorabilia to be auctioned at Beverly Hills profiles in History. A crystal ball which was used in the Wicked Witch which observed Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz sold for around £80,000. It is now proven that this memorabilia is selling for a lot of money.
